Dario PALADINI (Italy)
Prof Dario Paladini is the Director, Perinatal Medicine and Therapy Unit at the Gaslini Childrens' Hospital, Genoa; and Associate Professor of the Fetal Cardiology Unit at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Federico II of Naples.
Having obtained a degree from Federico II University Medical school in Naples, Italy, in 1986, Dr Dario Paladini completed his internship at the same University. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1990, always at the Federico II University of Naples. Thereafter, he joined the university's faculty as a research fellow. In the period of 1990-94, he moved to the National Cancer Institute of Milan for training in Gynecologic Oncology. In 1994 he came back to Naples and joined the faculty as lecturer and, since 2001, as an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology.
His trainings have been in the field of maternal-fetal medicine and of gynecologic oncology. He was responsible for the Fetal Medicine & Cardiology Unit, being involved in prenatal 2D and 3D diagnosis of congenital heart disease and of fetal anomalies. He was also dedicated to the diagnosis of genetic and non-genetic syndromes in the fetus and, recently he has put up the fetal therapy unit, with laser treatment for TTTS and invasive procedures such as cord-clamping, IT transfusions and placement of thoracoamniotic shunts. At the same time, he was coordinating the surgical aspects of the Gynecologic Oncology unit when he was with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Federico II of Naples.
Prof Dario Paladini has and continues to contribute extensively to the field of diagnostic ultrasound. So far, he has taught well over 200 national and international ultrasound courses and seminars, and has coordinated the ISUOG activities worldwide under his capacity as the Chair of the Education Committee until 2009; since then, he has been acting as a past-chair for the same committee. He has authored more than 150 articles in ultrasound, including original investigations, case reports, reviews and editorials, and published in peer-review journals. He is an author of 4 books, several book chapters, and has composed 2 video-DVD series.
Currently, Prof Paladini is in charge of the management of high risk pregnancies and fetal conditions; diagnosis and management of fetal anomalies; diagnosis of congenital heart disease in fetuses; management of monochorionic pregnancies complicated by Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome and other validated surgical intra-uterine procedures; and the management of pregnancies complicated by growth restriction, PROM and other high risk conditions.
He was the Chair of the Education Committee of ISUOG between 2005 and 2009. He holds several professional positions and has been a Board Member, Education Committee Chair, and Fetal Echo Task Force member of ISUOG since 2003.
