Welcome Message from Organizing Chairmen

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the 8th annual International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Outreach (ISUOG-OR) course to be held in Singapore at Raffles town club from 7th – 9th April 2012. It is with great pleasure that we welcome past acquaintances and invite new participants to this course. With each year, the organizing committee strives to update regional colleagues on the latest developments. This year, we are privileged to have the participation of a group of internationally renowned experts on ultrasound to come to the region to give their expert views on issues commonly encountered in our daily practice.

The 2012 course is organized by the ISUOG Teaching and Training Centre (TTC), Singapore in conjunction with the 3rd Scientific Congress of the College of O&G, Singapore. The theme of the event is "Fetal Surveillance: What a Normal 20-Week Scan Does Not Tell You". We know a normal 20-week scan does not preclude problems in pregnancy. There may be development in later pregnancy of IUGR, TTTS (in twin pregnancy) and intracranial pathology from antenatal insults such as CMV infection. The application of ultrasound in fetal surveillance in these clinical settings will be discussed. A lecture on sonographic milestones of fetal cerebral cortex will provide backdrop for surveillance of cerebral pathology. The usefulness of MRI in fetal brain imaging following ultrasonography will be explored. There will be sessions dedicated to peripartum care, addressing a variety of issues including the role of ultrasound in labour induction and in second-stage management of labour and ultrasonic assessment of cervix in preterm labour.

This course will not only be relevant to all ultrasound practitioners but also to the clinical practitioners, perinatal paediatricians and geneticists in the region. I trust that the course will continue to be academically stimulating. We look forward to your active participation.
